Happy Girls

[back to current projects]

Previous works have addressed a 19thC tendency to depict women as passive objects, and later, as the women's movement gained momentum, as predatory femmes fatales.

These new works are inspired by another late-19thC trend to depict women as lesbians - perhaps because their apparent preoccupation with each other did not challenge the prurient gaze of the male voyeur.

Here you can question the relationship between these ageing subjects, and their performance of femininity, sexuality & joy.
